Life

The fearlessness and immortality of my youth ended brutally during a bicycle trip through Japan. As I rode down a long winding road, an obviously drunk driver came speeding uphill εδώ. He missed me, but not my wife. The sound of the impact carried far. As I looked down on her bloody lifeless body, my existence crumbled.

And just as suddenly, her eyes opened. Calmly, through smashed teeth, she said, “Is my bike ok?”

With a clarity uncommon to myself up to that point, I realized that adulthood was going to be rough, but it would have its humorous moments.
